Ancient Survivors
of the Deep

The crocodiles found in the Nilwala River are primarily Saltwater Crocodiles (Crocodylus porosus). Despite their name, they are extremely adaptable and thrive in the brackish and freshwater environments of the river.

They are ambush predators, capable of remaining perfectly still in the murky water for hours, with only their eyes and nostrils exposed above the surface.

Did you know? Crocodiles actually have excellent night vision. While on our sunset tours, their eyes can sometimes be seen glowing red when light reflects off them in the dark.
